Echinacea, also known as purple coneflower, is a member of the aster family (Asteraceae) that originated in eastern North America. It is the root or the above ground part of the plant during the flowering growth phase that is used and what is thought to contribute to echinacea’s health support properties. Dosage and Interactions

When to Take:

Suggested Use: Take one capsule four times daily, with a meal. For easier swallowing, take with water before and during ingestions.


Potential interactions may occur with the following:

  • Immune-suppressing drugs. Since echinacea may stimulate the immune system, it can interfere with the effectiveness of these medications. Therefore, anyone with an autoimmune condition should avoid taking echinacea.
  • Anti-psychotic drugs. Echinacea may interfere with the metabolism of these drugs and increase potential for side effects.

Caution: If you are pregnant or nursing, consult a health professional before taking this product. Not recommended for use by people with auto-immune conditions. Do not use this product if you are allergic to plants in the daisy or ragweed family.

Echinacea is generally assumed safe for regular use. If condition persists, consult a physician.

If one is allergic to ragweed can one still take Echinacea?

Echinacea should not be used by those who are allergic to plants in the sunflower family (such as ragweed). In addition, those with an autoimmune condition should not take echinacea.
